Black Maternal Health Week is April 11th-17th. The 2025 Black Maternal Health Week theme, “Healing Legacies: Strengthening Black Maternal Health Through Collective Action and Advocacy,” emphasizes the power of Black-led perinatal, maternal, and reproductive health organizations to drive systemic change and foster community healing. The theme acknowledges the persistent legacies of systemic oppression(s), reproductive injustices, and health inequities that have disproportionately affected Black Mamas and people. April showers bring impactful programs for our youth! In the wake of rising costs, we want our youth to be able to have opportunities for entrepreneurship and multiple streams of income. Saturday, April 19th, 9-11:00 a.m., we are diving into our final workshop in the Gen Z Money Moves Financial Literacy Series. And because we like to give you "double for your trouble," we will be ending April with our Bounce and Balance: Youth Wellness Adventure. Join us Saturday, April 26th from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the AJ McClung YMCA. Join the Columbus Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter for Bounce and Balance: Youth Wellness Adventure. This event, in partnership with the A.J. McClung YMCA and Good Health Wins, Saturday, April 26th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. is a kickoff for Mental Health Awareness Month in May. It features fun and interactive mental wellness activities for youth facilitated by Roby Murphy, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Denise Reeves, Behavior Specialist. The mental wellness panel discussion for parents, facilitated by Sendena Stewart-Scott, LPC , will feature Ebony Young, LPC and Louis York, National Certified Counselor (NCC). The March Delta GEMS/Academy meeting hosted by the Educational Development Committee focused on notable women entrepreneurs, educators, activists, athletes, and entertainers. Members of the Columbus Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter supported the Black History Month Observance featuring the Honorable Jasmine Crocket, Congresswoman of the 30th District of Texas and member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She reminded us to stop waiting for a leader to step up and take charge. "You are who you have been waiting for. You are going to lead you." In a reception Sunday evening, members of CMAC and our sister chapter @columbusalumnaechapter Columbus (GA) Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. were able to present Congresswoman Crocket with a token of our appreciation for her service including donations to the Black Mamas Matter Alliance to honor her passionate support of black maternal health. The Columbus Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was originally chartered as the Harris County Alumnae Chapter on February 2, 1970, at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia. Thirteen members of Delta Sigma Theta recognized the need for programming in the area and dedicated themselves to forming a new alumnae chapter. After nine years of impactful programming, the membership increased to include Deltas from the surrounding areas. Due to continued growth and demographic changes, the chapter was renamed the Columbus Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated on December 4, 1979, and has been active in this extended community ever since. As a group of college-educated, professional women, the Columbus Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter is committed to impactful programming and purposeful partnerships. Our service area includes Columbus and Harris County, Georgia; Phenix City, and Russell County, Alabama.

The Columbus Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter owes a debt of gratitude to the forward-thinking women who laid the foundation for our chapter. We are committed to creating intentional and sustainable programming that aligns with the National Strategic Plan under the leadership of International President and Chair of the Board of Directors Elsie Cooke-Holmes. We are honored to continue the legacy of our charter members, and have affectionally coined the term "CMAC impact" to reflect this commitment. We are proud to represent the Southern Region under the leadership of Regional Director Amaris L Johnson and Regional Representative Noel Seymour and appreciate the leadership of our hard working South Georgia State Coordinator, Michelle Nelson-Hawkins, who is a also a member of the Columbus Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter.

CMAC Scholarship Application 2025

Janie Jeter Williams dedicated over 30 years to educating generations of scholars. In 2002, during a reception with her family, the Columbus Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter established the Janie J. Williams Memorial Scholarship in her honor and awarded our first scholarships during the inaugural luncheon in 2003. We are pleased to announce that we are accepting scholarship applications for 2025.

Scholarship Eligibility: High school seniors (2025) graduating from a high school in Muscogee, Chattahoochee, or Harris Counties in Georgia, or Russell County in Alabama with a GPA of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 grading scale.
